Playful towards new ideas: "Digital Innovation Game"

The "Digital Innovation Game" playfully leads to new products/service offerings or digital business models. It is based on the gamification method, in the form of competitive team play.

This is how our "Digital Innovation Game" works

The game is controlled through a digital, interactive app, using the City Map of London as the game interface. As teams navigate through various locations on the London City Map, they receive knowledge prompts and tasks. They must communicate with customers to identify their specific needs. Teams have the option to seek advice from specialists internally or externally, or take out an "Innocoin credit" from the game bank.

The performance of the teams is evaluated using the game currency "Innocoins". The winning team is the one with the most "Innocoins".

A game session lasts one to two working days, depending on the tasks. The outcome at the end of the game should be a new, creative digital product/service, or a completely new business model.

During the drive through London, the teams go through four phases.

For solving the innovation challenge, the teams have integrated communication channels such as video conferencing and chat tools, as well as the asynchronous medium of email at their disposal. Through these channels, dialogues are conducted with prospective customers and subject matter experts.

At the end of the fourth and final phase – which is Station 20 on the London City Map – the end result of the intensive teamwork is presented.

An expert jury evaluates the presented ideas. The Innocoins earned during the individual game phases, along with those awarded by the jury, determine the best innovation idea.

The "Digital Innovation Game" has been successfully utilized in tertiary education and in businesses.
